Maria Mélart

Maria Mélart is a Finnish artist with a rich background in children's book illustration, having collaborated with several publishing houses in Finland. Her previous work brought stories to life for young audiences through charming and imaginative visuals. Recently, however, Maria has shifted her focus toward a deeply personal creative journey, exploring themes that resonate with her on a more profound level. Her current work delves into the complexities of femininity and sensuality, using visual storytelling that evokes a dreamlike atmosphere with a spiritual undertone. These themes are often woven into compositions reminiscent of fairy tales, where mystical and ethereal elements invite viewers to immerse themselves in a world that feels both timeless and otherworldly.

In her artistic process, Maria favors traditional mediums. She often works with pencils and colored pencils, tools that allow her to maintain a tactile connection to her art and bring an intricate, hand-drawn quality to each piece. However, she also experiments with digital techniques, using Procreate to supplement her traditional work. The app’s realistic brushes and intuitive interface enable her to combine the depth of traditional methods with the versatility of digital art.

Beyond her work on paper, Maria is also expanding her artistic expression through clay sculpture. After completing her studies in ceramics at the Forssa Vocational Institute last spring, she now aims to incorporate sculptural elements into her portfolio. These ceramic pieces will likely reflect her interest in femininity and spirituality, adding a new, tactile dimension to her exploration of form and theme. This multidisciplinary approach allows Maria to express her vision in both two and three dimensions, deepening the emotional and sensory impact of her art as she continues to evolve her unique creative voice.
